MARCIE DOCHERTY

My work meanders housing, homesickness, gender through a variety of vessels - staged & documentarian photography, video, text. I’m visually intrigued by  clinical compositions and striking light and colour - finding a balance between masculinity and feminity within the world we both inhabit and create.

Cultural and photography theory are used as a means of understanding the world around me, and the importance / meaning of photographs and art. My work is layered with questions, from the clothes my subjects wear, to the locations.  I use fashion photo as both play and further research, intrigued by both people and the layers of meaning within clothes.
